Whom You Follow, You Become
The bear market is for grinding; the bull market is for enjoying life.
"Show me your friends, and I'll show you your future." This saying holds as true in real life as it does in the internet money life. Surround yourself with shitcoin shillers and you'll probably become one too. But align yourself with visionary investors, and you're on your path to success.
I'm still relatively a puppy or a very young doge in crypto compared to OGs who have been here 10 years. My first experience investing in the stock market was in November 2020 and I jumped into crypto and DeFi in the summer of 2021. I fell in love though, and my learning curve was steep, full of constant learning and occasional one-day pauses to re-evaluate my direction.
Once over time I felt that I could interact with crypto people on an interesting level about technology, privacy, protocols, blockchain, or help with researching potential investments, I decided to use my Twitter to post some content. My dream is to be a part of this space, to participate in building it, to simply put my hand to work with the best quality content I can deliver, which makes me want to keep growing and improving.
On June 16, 2023, I shared my first thread on Kwenta. That moment marked a turning point, with my knowledge and content creation both accelerating. I was inspired by the accounts I followed, all contributing to my motivation and consistency.
However, the coming of the bull market, especially after the New Year 2024, has brought about a change. The barrage of repetitive content full of scams began to drain my enthusiasm. My feelings were, 'What the fuck is this? These people are copying content from each other and adding it to their own X.' They shill in one post 5 tokens, 4 of which are already -90%, but one is x2 and they write ten other threads with a quote on the original post about how they are successful and need to be followed. Yet even this last token is already down -90% now.
Many of the influencers I've followed since the beginning have become paid promoters of whatever project has rewarded them. It's okay; many of them are transparent about collaboration, but even more are not, lol. In that moment, I questioned my participation in an increasingly toxic space.
My love for crypto is enormous. I'm committed to being a part of this industry, surrounded by its brightest minds. So, I refined my follow list, opting for quality over quantity to avoid the negativity. I've curated lists of the best in the space, aiming to grow alongside them. It's crucial to surround yourself with perfection.
This is just part of it, but if I can pick just 10 people I want to follow, here they are:
Beware of whom you follow, especially during a bull market when the atmosphere can get particularly toxic.
The bear market is for grinding; the bull market is for enjoying the fruits of your labor. Remember, the vast majority of influencers on X lack a deep understanding of DeFi or crypto overall. They chase engagement with low-value content.
Focusing on a select group of about 50 real influencers can offer more value than following thousands. This curated approach ensures you miss nothing of importance and gradually integrates you into a community of outstanding people.
Whom you follow shapes who you become. Choose wisely.
If you ever find yourself in a position to influence this space, remember: 'With great power comes great responsibility.' Don't sell your soul for shitcoins and engagement. True intentions and integrity yield far greater rewards, affecting both your real-world standing and your reputation in the crypto community.
